The Kenya Fishing School is found at the National Aquaculture Research Development and Training Centre (NARDTC) Sagana which is located about 2 km within Sagana Township in Kirinyaga County, approximately 104 Km Northeast of Nairobi City. It lies at latitudes 0019’S and 37012’E and at an altitude of 1231 metres above mean sea level.The rationale is to provide induction for newly recruited KF staff; and participate in development, review and implementation of Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) curriculum in Fisheries and Aquaculture.
b) Functions:
(i)Provide induction for newly recruited KF staff;
(ii)Participate in development, review and implementation of Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) curriculum in Fisheries and Aquaculture;
(iii)Provide refresher courses for fisheries officers (In-service Courses);
(iv)Provide training to Fisheries and Aquaculture stakeholders; and
(v)Collaborate with national, regional and international institutions in Fisheries and Aquaculture Training Programs.
(vi) To provide aquaculture training and education to visiting institutions of
learning and organized groups.
(vii) To operationalize aquaponics systems for demonstrations in learning
institutions and offer training on their management.
(viii) Provision of field/industrial attachments to students from tertiary and
university colleges.
